What is the annual deductible?

The annual deductible is the portion of covered expenses that you must pay before the Health Plan pays benefits in a given calendar year.

Current annual deductible
$25 per person, maximum $50 per family

Which expenses does the deductible apply to?

The deductible applies to all eligible expenses, except for:

   
• semiprivate room and board charges in a public general hospital in Canada;
   
• emergency expenses outside the province of residence and medical assistance outside Canada; and
   
• room and board in a rehabilitation institution or convalescent home.

I just paid my deductible at the end of the year. Can I apply it to the next year?

Yes. If you have paid the deductible in whole or in part through expenses incurred in the last three months of a calendar year, the deductible for the following year will be reduced by the amount of deductible already paid.
