Teachers' rights and benefits Collective Agreement 2005-2010The collective agreement defines most of the working conditions of teachers who are members of QPAT local unions. Certain specific conditions are defined in your local agreement. You should contact your local union for more information about the local agreement. For teachers in one of the nine English school boards, follow this link: Maternity Leave and Parental RightsThe new Quebec Parental Insurance Program (QPIP) has implications for teachers who will become pregnant. This link is to a booklet which will provide you with an overview of how the QPIP interacts with our collective agreement’s maternity leave clauses and a preventative leave covered by the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité au travail (CSST). It also describes paternity rights. Workplace Injuries and Preventative LeaveUnfortunately, people do occasionally get hurt at work in such a way that they can no longer perform their duties. Some pregnant teachers can no longer perform their duties because their workplace presents a risk to the pregnancy. In these cases, the CSST may pay compensation. While teachers in these situations are urged to contact their union immediately if they are unclear on what to do, the following website may offer the necessary information. Pension PlansQPAT teachers normally pay into two pension plans: the Régime de retraite des employés du gouvernement et des organismes publics (RREGOP) and the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP). A few teachers still remain in the Teachers’ Pension Plan (TPP) rather than the RREGOP. Contributions to QPP are based on part of the income earned, whereas contributions to the RREGOP or the TPP are based on the remainder of the income earned. As the plans are complementary, the QPP and the other plans are integrated after age 65 and QPAT offers workshops to explain this aspect, among others, of the pension plans. The following links take you to the site of each plan. Insurance PlansQPAT teachers have access to coverage under certain insurance plans offered by Industrial Alliance. Information about health insurance, dental insurance (for MTA members), life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance and long-term disability insurance may be found in this page.
